Mascara Review

Happy Friday!! I’ve been wanting to share a review about my favorite and not so favorite mascara’s as I often get questions about what I use on my lashes!

1. Tarte Lights Camera Flashes

I tried this mascara a few years ago when I was looking into Tarte products because they are a “cleaner” brand than some others out there on the market. This mascara was not my favorite because the brush seemed very hard on my lashes and it didn’t last me very long. The brush did, however, do a good job at separating my lashes but didn’t give me that super voluminous look that I go for on a daily basis. If you’re looking for a cleaner brand and a more natural look, this might be a good product for you to try!

2. Lancome Clis Booster XL Super-Enhancing Mascara Base

I first received this lash primer as a sample in a random gift with purchase and instantly loved it. It really does prime my lashes for mascara and definitely makes them seem longer. I’ve since bought the full size of this primer and use it all the time. If you’re looking for a great primer, I would definitely recommend this one!!

3. Bobbi Brown ‘Everything’ Mascara

I grew up on this mascara, so to speak! It’s the first mascara I ever tried and I really think it’s such a great every day mascara if you’re looking for something that will help lengthen and give you volume but isn’t over the top. I probably used this mascara for 5 years without trying anything else because it really coated my lashes, didn’t flake and was just a good quality product. I would say that for a night out I would recommend a mascara with a little more volume, or applying multiple coats. But for a great every day mascara you can rely on…I would recommend this one!

4. L’Oreal Voluminous Superstar Mascara

Oh my gosh I love this mascara duo. I first found out about this through another blogger – The Skinny Confidential I would say almost two years ago maybe? Sidenote: if you haven’t checked out her blog and you’re looking for a total wellness/fashion/lifestyle blog that does NOT hold back, Lauryn is awesome. She is so real and tells it like it is and I appreciate her voice in the blogging world so much! Anyway, this mascara has one end that is a primer which is fabulous, and the other end is mascara. I love the brushes, love the formula, and it’s $10 on Amazon. So you really just can’t beat that! I would highly recommend this product!

5. Le Volume De Chanel Mascara

You guys, this is it. This is my hands down, consistently great, favorite mascara. I LOVE this mascara. This is that mascara that instantly gives me longer, fuller lashes that stay all day – no flaking, dryness, etc. It’s even easy to take off. I could not recommend this product more. When people comment on my lashes I’m wearing two coats of this and it shows! Just so you know, I normally use the primer from the L’oreal before I apply this, or I use the Lancome primer. But before primers were even a thing, I used this mascara without the primer for over a year and couldn’t get enough! Buy this mascara and let me know what you think! 😉

6. Lancome Definicils Lengthening and Defining Mascara

This mascara is one of those that if they discontinued it I would never miss it, but if it was the only mascara in the world, I could use it everyday and be fine. LOL. It’s just for me not amazing but it works. I like the formula a lot and it doesn’t flake, it separates my lashes, etc. but it does not give me super volume at all. Sometimes I’ll put on a few coats of this and it does the job, but I’m not like “WOW MY LASHES ARE HUGE TODAY” with this product. To be 100% honest with you, I think it’s the brush. The brush isn’t my favorite shape. My favorite is the more pinecone shaped brush, and this brush doesn’t give me the volume. I know a lot of people who really love this mascara for it’s more natural look but for my lashes, I need more volume!

7. Clinique “Lash Power” Flutter-to-Full Mascara

To be honest with you, lol this is the worst mascara I’ve ever tried. I’m not trying to be dramatic, but please save yourself the $ and don’t buy this! It was SO FLAKEY, hard to get off and the next morning I still had flakes under my eyes. Yuck.

8. L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Primer

I think this is the same primer that’s in the 2-in-1 mascara I love, and I would highly recommend this product. It’s a fabulous price point (under $10), great, consistent product and really works. Not much more to say but you should always have a tube of this in your make up bag! This is a fabulous product!!

9. Hypnose Drama Instant Full Body Mascara

I got this mascara the same time I got this primer  (#4). I actually really liked using this product but since haven’t bought a normal size tube because I’ve been using my L’Oreal + Chanel, but I really liked this a lot. The brush was so much better than the definicils for my lashes, and it gave me fuller volume. I will say – I just checked the brush from my sample (I’ve had it for probably 6 months) and my brush shape is much more pine cone shaped rather than this squigly shape. So, I will probably order this to see about this brush situation. I was surprised by how much I actually really liked this formal/brush combo!

image I recently purchased some new beauty products and wanted to review them for you. It can be challenging to know which beauty products to try, and which to avoid when the market is so saturated with both good and bad products!

Four of these products are from the drug store, which is great because they are affordable and easy to access. The others are from Sephora and Nordstrom – both of which are really easy to shop online!

Let’s get down to the products…

First up…

HourGlass Blush // INCANDESCENT ELECTRA – The best blush I’ve found in so long!! The color is so beautiful, and shimery- I absolutely love it! I’ve had this for 2 months probably and have used it every day. The funny thing is though it doesn’t even look l

NYX Super Skinny Eye Marker // CARBON BLACK – I got this product on a whim. I’ve been using the same Bobbi Brown eyeliner for the past 10 years and love it, but was looking for more of a defined sleeker look. I think that could be achieved with the Bobbi Brown with a thinner brush, but I wanted something super defined.

This pen was at first tricky for me to get the hang of because I’m SO not used to using a pen like this. After the first 5-10 tries, I started reaching for it every day. The pen itself is really soft which makes it easy to apply. It stays on all day which I love, and doesn’t smudge. This is a major plus for me!

NYX Micro Brow Pencil // ASH BROWN– I’m going to be honest and say at first I wasn’t sold on this product. I was worried the crayon end was too hard and wasn’t easy to apply. However, I kept using it and I realized that I just didn’t really know what I was doing. If you lightly apply the crayon end to your eyebrows and create a defining line and fill it in, this product works beautifully. I’ve never used an eyebrow crayon/pencil before, but have truly noticed a difference in my overall make up look by adding a little hint of color to my brows. I recommend this product because it’s not overwhelming and you can gradually add color.

L’Oreal Voluminous Superstar Mascara // BLACK NOIR – this is not a new product but I wanted to share how much I continue to love this product. Coming from someone who used to only buy Bobbi Brown, Clinique or Chanel mascara, I highly recommend this drugstore product. I love that it comes with the primer in the same applicator and I love the coverage it gives my lashes. It also never flakes which is huge for me!

Anastasia Clear Brow Gel – As I mentioned above, I’ve never really done anything with my eyebrows besides get them shaped and brushing them. This brow gel changed my game! It’s amazing the difference when your brows stay in place all day! I love applying this after using the brow pencil! I would highly recommend this product.

Becca Cosmetics // Opal – I use this highlighter above my blush line to highlight my cheekbones. I also use it to elongate my nose, and right above the top of my lip to create a pouty effect. I love to use this highlighter as my eyeshadow base and then use my bronzer as my accent color. It creates a simple yet glowing day time eye that is super warming and beautiful.

Essie Gel Polish // Color + Top Coat – Essie just sent a whole box to me and they’re FABULOUS! I have been wanting to try an at home gel other than the Sally Hansen product I’ve previously tried and loved. But being an Essie + OPI girl from the beginning, I was thrilled when I opened up the package and saw at home gel! So fun! Make sure you buy both the color and top coat!
